Finally, in a decade-old case in which Self-Styled Godman Asaram Bapu aka Asumal Sirumalani was convicted of repeatedly raping his female disciple for over five years, a Session Court in Gandhinagar sentenced controversial godman Asaram Bapu to life imprisonment today.

Asaram Bapu aka Asumal Sirumalani was found guilty on Monday of violating Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 346 (wrongful confinement), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 201 (destroying evidence) (IPC).

On Monday, a Gujarat court in Gandhinagar convicted self-styled godman Asaram Bapu in a 2013 rape case against him. The Sentence was kept reserved and announced today on 31st Jan 2023.

According to the FIR filed at Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda police station, Asaram Bapu allegedly raped the woman on several occasions between 2001 and 2006, while she was living at his ashram on the city’s outskirts. In October 2013, a Surat-based woman filed a rape and illegal confinement case against Asaram Bapu and seven others, one of whom died during the trial. In July 2014, a chargesheet was filed.
